Evening talk with BDS Chairman Rory Putnam
Our Chairman Rory Putnam will present a stimulating question and answer session about the present and future direction for our Society, and all things deer. New initiatives such as the Society’s new Distribution and Abundance survey of deer will be discussed, and how members can help with this survey.
The Deer Survey is looking for volunteers to monitor local woods within a defined area. They will be looking for presence and abundance, or absence of deer, species of deer, and deer paths within the woodland edge, to help determine deer density at that location. By collating the information, the Society may be better placed to extrapolate deer densities in other similar areas. And members will be better informed for estimating deer density within the forests they are familiar with or managing.
This Evening meeting will talk place at The Ken Bridge Hotel, New Galloway, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 17th March.

The BDS is concerned over several aspects of the Scottish Government’s response to the Deer Working Group’s recommendations regarding the management of wild deer.
At the National Game Dealers Association AGM members voted to commit to sourcing all Game from lead-free supply chains from 1st July 2022.
The Chairman of The British Deer Society, Professor Rory Putman, has informed the Board of Trustees that he intends to stand down in May.
