Two new dates have been announced this August for the DVC Humane Animal Dispatch Courses - Book now!
At its recent AGM held in Edinburgh, the British Deer Society elected Professor Rory Putman as its new Chairman. Professor Putman, who lives in Scotland, has worked for many years as a research biologist, specialising in studies on deer and their impact on their environment and as an independent consultant advising landowners, land managers and Government agencies on deer management. He has worked extensively in the UK and more widely across Europe.
Further bovine TB (bTB) measures have recently been announced by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs to help strengthen disease control and expand options to tackle new bTB outbreaks.
A new study is to examine the behaviour of Britain's only free-roaming reindeer herd. Scientists are to investigate the ecological role the animals play in the Cairngorms, where the herd has been since 1952. Their work will also inform future sustainable reindeer tourism in the Cairngorms National Park.
GPS collars equipped with cameras will be fitted to some of the reindeer to track their movements.
Not long to go now! Come and meet the BDS team on stand G24.
We will be there to greet you and to talk about our research, training, membership and all manner of deer issues. The head measurers will be with us too - so stop by and say hello.
