UPDATE
Once again thank you so much for supplying the branch with antlers, especially the roe ones. It never ceases to amaze me how they sell so well at shows, no matter what size of roe antler they go, so please donate them to us for funds towards our research programmes.
Email addresses are now well over half way, so please could you send us yours if you have not done so, the post is getting very expensive.
As you will have read in the journal it is farewell to David Kenyon our communications officer, David and Kate are starting a new venture running an estate in Wales. It is a welcome onto the training side nationally to Martin Hailstone to assist Dave Goffin.
Road traffic accidents involving deer are on the increase in our area, Dr Jochen Langbein is still collecting data of these accidents, so please could you let Jochen have any reports of DVC's, you can reach him on 01984 641366 www.deercollisions.co.uk
The work parties over the winter months in the New Forest have all been successful, if you feel you would like to join the group, please contact me on the number on the side of the newsletter, I will then in return contact you each time we arrange a day.
PAST EVENTS
The Branch AGM took place in February, with the Chairman, Treasurer and committee being voted back on, the list is on the side of this newsletter. It is welcome back to Hugh Goodman who has taken over as Secretary from Hugh Guillebaud, who felt it time to step down, many thanks Hugh for the time you were our Secretary of the branch .After the business side of the evening, it was followed by a presentation from Sgt Louise Hubble on Country Watch in Hampshire. It was quite an eye opener to some of the audience on just how much work Louise does, she is extremely dedicated to her role and now has three officers in her team.
March 18th we held another joint evening with Manuel Hinge freelance BBC cameraman. About 60 people saw various clips of film old and new. One of the new ones was a fascinating clip of swifts and their rearing of their young. I always look forward to seeing the swifts arrive, especially when we are in France the thrill of hearing the swifts screaming against the peel of church bells. Another clip was of the woodcock and how wonderfully camouflaged this bird can be. We also saw a clip on badgers, but this time with Julia Noble on how she raises orphans and then successfully puts them back into the wild, Julia is a very dedicated naturalist with wildlife.
