BRITISH DEER SOCIETY

 

2nd OPEN INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

 

SUBJECT CATEGORIES                         TO DOWNLOAD AN ENTRY FORM CLICK HERE

 

1.      DEER. 

Wild or park deer, in any situation,  taken anywhere in the world.

 (maximum entry 3 images)  Members and/or Non Members

 

2.      'BUSHWEAR' DEER CATEGORY

a.       Deer in unusual situations      (maximum entry 3 images)

b.      Breeding behaviour in deer    (maximum entry 3 images)

c.       Deer on the move                 (maximum entry 3 images)

d.      Deer at attractors                  (maximum entry 3 images)

 

This category is open to both members and non members and can be entered in addition to the above category.  Therefore a maximum of 15 images may be entered. Every entrant to the Bushwear category will receive a £10 credit against their next purchase.

 

CLASSES

1. OPEN.

Non Society members.   Digital Images only of any deer species taken anywhere in the world. (these can be scanned images from original transparencies or prints)

 

2. BRITISH DEER SOCIETY MEMBERS

Entries must be from fully paid up members of the British Deer Society. Membership number must be included with entry.  Digital Images only of any deer species taken anywhere in the world. (these can be scanned images from original transparencies or prints) Members may also enter the Open Category but can win a prize in only one class.

 

COMPETITION RULES

 

1.  The British Deer Society are the organizers of the competition which is open to anyone except organizing members of the B.D.S. Photographic Committee and sponsors of the competition and will run from 31st  March to 30th  September 2008. 

 

2.  Entries should be digital images submitted as JPEG files on CD (no smaller than 3000x2000 pixels) with accompanying colour prints no smaller than 5"x7" and no larger than A4 un-mounted. Names and address must also be written on all CD's and prints 

 

3. Up to three digital images may be entered in each eligible class, category & sub category. 

 

4.  Each entrant must hold the sole copyright of each picture entered and, where appropriate, may enter more than one category to a total maximum of 15 permissible images  (18 if BDS members are entering all classes/categories) but will be eligible for only one prize in category 1 DEER,   but may also win one of the four Bushwear Category prizes.  BDS members may also enter the open categories but non-BDS members may not enter the category for BDS members only.   The 6 class/category winners will then be judged against each other for the overall prize & title of the BDS Deer Photographer of the Year.    Prizes will be as stated and cannot be exchanged.

 

5.  Pictures that have previously won an open photographic competition (with the exception of local camera club competitions), are not eligible.   Any photograph discovered to have been so entered will be disqualified.

 

6.  The judges,  appointed by the organizer, will have the final decision and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges or organizers regarding either the judging or organization of the competition.

 

7.  Should the standard of entry in any category fall below the required standard the organizer reserve the right not to award prizes in that particular class.

 

8. Winners and commended photographers will be notified during December 2008 Winning photographs will be exhibited at the 2009  AGM of the British Deer Society and will be published in a forthcoming  edition of DEER journal, the BDS web site, Amateur Photographer magazine & other media outlets.

 

9. The organizers reserve the right to publish and or reproduce without further permission, any image submitted to the competition for the furtherance of the aims of the British Deer Society. Similarly our sponsors may use prize winning images for publicity purposes, and for publication in their catalogues and websites in connection with the furtherance of their businesses. In the case of Bushwear, all submitted images to this category will be made available to Bushwear for the above purposes. Any use outside of these conditions will be subject to permission of the photographer. Copyright at all times remains with the photographer

 

10. All images are sent at the photographer's own risk and the organizers cannot accept liability for any loss or damage howsoever that may be caused.

 

11. RETURN OF IMAGES

As these are expendable digital images no entries will be returned.   Entrants should retain copies of their submissions.

 

12. Entry fees are £10 for six images and £15 for 15 or 18 images (depending on class of entry)  per competitor. BDS members must include their membership number on all entries in order to qualify for the members category.  Entry fees should be paid by £ sterling cheques / International money order made payable to the British Deer Society.

 

13. The DEER must be alive.   Their welfare is paramount and there must be no disturbance to them during the taking of any photographs.  Pictures must be legally obtained with landowner's permission where necessary.

 

14. Closing Date: All entries and cheques to be sent to the entry address by last post 30th September 2008.
