Deer Stalking Certificate Level 2 Portfolio Evidence Gathering Opportunity
British Deer Society recognises that for some, gathering sufficient evidence to complete a Deer Stalking Certificate level 2 portfolio can sometimes be difficult and expensive.
Deer Management Qualifications Ltd. who award the deer stalking certificates, intentionally have no control over charges imposed by witnesses, leaving it the responsibility of candidates to negotiate and agree any cost which might be imposed. The aim of this scheme is to provide for its members, who are DSC2 candidates, an opportunity to gather evidence for their portfolios. This will be under the observation of a DMQ Accredited Witness with known costs in advance and with no financial surprises.
To accommodate this scheme, BDS have taken an exclusive stalking lease over 1650 acres of forest situated approximately 14 miles north of Dumfries in SW Scotland. The forest is of mixed structure with significant amounts of establishment stage woodland, affording excellent opportunities for observing and stalking deer. Situated close to major roads, getting to the area is relatively easy and with a local abundance of all classes of accommodation, short stays can be taken at a cost to suit all pockets.
A candidate will specify how many outings are required and arrangements for the stalking with an available Accredited Witnesses will made by the local scheme coordinator. Prior to arriving in the locality, candidates will have been sent joining instructions, contact details and confirmation of dates and times. The joining instructions will also detail accommodation in the area should it be required.
It will be appreciated that results cannot be guaranteed however, the habitat over which the scheme is operated over, should give candidates ample opportunity for success.
Candidates wishing to utilise the facility will be required to pay a one off administration fee to BDS of £72. Each witnessed outing will be charged at £50 (payable direct to the Accredited Witness) and will include completion of a portfolio covering the performance criteria witnessed during an outing. A cull fee of £35 per deer shot will be charged irrespective of species, sex, age or quality and this charge will additionally apply to wounded animals that are not recovered. All venison will remain the property of the Society and may not be purchased.
All candidates will be required to check zero rifles and demonstrate adequate marksmanship prior to the commencement of any stalking.
