DSC1 On-line Learning Course
Introducing Distance Learning from the British Deer Society and the Deer Stalkers E-Manual
So what is it all the fuss about?
BDS have been running highly successful classroom based training courses for about twenty years now, providing novice stalkers with information on Britain's six species of wild deer plus the technical aspects of their management and relevant law. This has worked extremely well for a large number of stalkers who have passed through the system taking deer stalking qualifications.
A significant number of people however can't commit time to a traditional course because of family or work commitments or simply an unwillingness or inability to travel. This new programme is especially for them and for others simply wanting to learn more about the subject matter.
The programme brings together in one package, a unique compilation of information, the most comprehensive of its kind, allowing anyone with access to a personal computer to study for the Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 in their own time and at their own pace.
What is the Distance Learning Package?
The Distance Learning Package (DLP) is an Internet based teaching programme, centred around the Society's 319 page Deer Stalkers Training Manual. User-friendly text is supplemented with over 1600 illustrations and diagrams. Delivered through the LANTRA Website, the programme contains a number of self-assessment quizzes allowing students to check their knowledge as they advance through the learning process. Student support is offered from on-line tutors who are contacted via e-mail following enrolment.
What will it cost and how does it work?
Access to the distance learning programme costs £95.00, giving unlimited access to the site for 124 days (4 months.)
Following enrolment, entry is gained through the Lantra website (www.lantraonline.co.uk) using an individual user name and password. Once logged on, a student is presented with his or her personal 'learner page' containing specific information plus facilities for accessing on-line quizzes. Having reached this far, a student is just two mouse clicks away from accessing the BDS E-Manual.
An on-line tutor can assist with technical aspects of the programme, if required. For students wishing to progress to formal DSC Level 1 Assessment, the tutor will be able to advise on the process and any extra firearms training if required. If needed, additional time can be purchased for the DLP following expiry and will be charged at £24 per each additional 31-day period.
