NEW FOR 2012 - REDUCED DSC1 COURSE FEES

The cost of the DSC1 courses for 2012 is now reduced from £299.00 to £275.00. The course dates are now advertised on the Course Dates page and future dates and locations will be added once they are confirmed.

Great news for 2012 from the BDS Training team

To fulfil demand from stalkers too busy to take time out for a full Deer Stalking Certificate1  (DSC1)   training course, BDS is offering a package deal which includes the Ultimate Deer Data CD plus full DSC 1 Assessments at the keen price of £175.00.

Buyers will receive the Ultimate Deer Data CD retailing at £49.00 which is packed with interactive quizzes on deer recognition, general knowledge and large game handling; over 600 photographs;  Health and Safety Q&As, plus a shooting skills and marksmanship instruction guide. Additionally the CD contains an electronic version of the complete BDS DSC1 training manual and  a "how to" guide to taking DSC Level 1 assessments -  all in all the perfect home learning and revision kit.  The package deal also covers DSC1 registration cost and all five assessments too, so is really great value!

The application form can be downloaded here and also found on the DSC1 information page.

MoD Certificate Renewal 2012

BDS members will be aware that to shoot on MoD ranges, they require to hold a certificate of competence or be individually supervised. The National Rifle Association has traditionally issued these certificates to NRA affiliated gun clubs. Previously these have been valid for a year or part year up to December 31 of the year of issue. NRA, in a change of policy from 1 January 2012, will be issuing Certificates of Competency for periods of up to 4 years, currently expiring on 31 December 2015.

Unfortunately due to production problems, a plastic card system has yet to be implemented and this will hopefully follow during 2012. As soon as the plastic card system is up and running NRA will notify us in order to replace the existing cards.

If you wish to renew your current shooters certificate, which was obtained through BDS, and which expires at the end of December 2011, please send a stamped addressed envelope, a photocopy of your certificate and payment of £10.00 to BDS at the address below:

BDS Training Department, The Walled Garden, Burgate Manor, Fordingbridge, Hampshire, SP6 1EF.

Application for Conversion of DSC 1 to include Trained Hunter Competence

Individuals who achieved their Deer Stalking Certificate , Level 1, prior to 2006 may now undertake to upgrade their DSC 1 to include the Wild Game Meat Hygiene for trained hunter status by attending and passing a fifth assessment. All DSC 1 certificates issued since 1st January 2006 (blue coloured) indicate that the holder is also designated a "trained hunter" (for large game only) under the food hygiene regulations

No tuition will be given but the information required to pass the assessment is available by purchasing the BDS Training Manual priced at £30.00 plus postage and packing. In addition, candidates should also read and understand The Wild Game Guide and other documents available on the Food Standards Agency website:

http://www.food.gov.uk/foodindustry/meat/guidehygienemeat
