2007 INTER BRANCH PHOTOGRAPHY

COMPETITION RESULTS

Jon Jayes,

Secretary, Photographic Committee

Although entries were minimal this year - in fact only two branches entered - selecting the winning image was difficult but Wessex Branch were again triumphant.  Having been winners on the last two occasions they have also taken first place four times in the last six years.

Highland Branch came second but the entries couldn't match those of Wessex.   A portfolio of six images were submitted from six different photographers but it was James Jackson who won for the Branch with his shot of a roe buck, ' In Tatters'.

James won the competition for Wessex last year and we hope to see more of his pictures in future competitions.

His winning picture this time conveys the scene of a cold and bleak day and he's caught the buck just right with the face and eyes being particularly sharp.

Matt Moore came second with his 'Couched Doe' picture which just lost out through a little lack of overall sharpness.   Maybe this was camera shake or lens resolution but it just cost him first place.

George Trebinski came in third with his 'Dawn Patrol'.  This was a rich and colourful shot but the judges felt that a little more depth of field would have been advantageous but couldn't fault it in any other area.

The whole portfolio from Wessex was testament to the enthusiasm for photography in that Branch and the judges found it a pleasure to see the pictures.   Congratulations to Wessex.

The Photographic Committee hope that all the photographers in Wessex  - and all other members who enjoy taking pictures of deer - will enter their best shots for the Open International competition which closes on 30th September.   Rules,  guidance and entry forms can be found elsewhere on the web site.     There are some fantastic prizes including the BDS Deer Photographer of the Year award - The Highland Chase - by Border Fine Arts.

Good luck to all who enter and thank you to all those photographers who entered the Inter Branch and the other competitions in 2007.
