BDS Deer Management Course
The BDS Deer Management Course is an intensive course of instruction designed to teach candidates the sometimes-complex principles of managing a wild deer population within the U.K.
The student population has historically arrived on the course with a varied level of practical and management experience. Those who apply themselves to reading, research, and revision prior to the course invariably get much more from it. A great deal of benefit is also gained through discussion and debate, drawing on the experiences of those attending.
The internet is an indispensable tool for reference material for those with access. Most towns now have some form of cyber café, which will allow any one to go in off the street and search on the internet for items of interest. Many libraries now offer a similar service and most people know a friend who might be cajoled into providing assistance.
Candidates would be required to hold a minimum of DSC level 1 and preferably DSC Level 2 or have a high level of deer knowledge. A preparation reading list is available from Fordingbridge for study prior to booking onto the course.
The cost of a course is £390 which includes course handbook, and the BDS Deer Management Certificate on successful completion. To apply for a place, please complete the form and return, together with the course fee. If your application is successful, course material, joining instructions and a programme will be forwarded to you in advance of the commencement date.
The cost does not include accommodation or meals.
As part of a course programme, an optional advanced shooting test may be taken and a pass will be detailed on a BDS Deer Management Certificate. If you wish to participate in the shooting you will be required to bring with you a fully zeroed deer legal rifle and a quantity of ammunition.
