BDS Deer Awareness Events/Courses
The Deer Stalking Certificate level 2 'Awareness Training' is aimed at those who have completed DSC 1 and wish to progress toward achieving their DSC 2. On registration for DSC 2, a candidate is sent a portfolio in which to gather evidence, which after submission will be assessed for consideration of the DSC 2 to be granted.
Some candidates may be uncertain what is required of them and how the evidence is to be collected and documented. After enrolling for DSC 2 Awareness Training, the candidate will be placed with an instructor who will conduct with them, 3 separate field outings during which the full process of DSC 2 will be explained and demonstrated. Instruction is given on a one to one basis covering all aspects of DSC 2 and where appropriate practical demonstrations will be given. The candidate will have an opportunity to practise skills and question the instructor on any uncertainties they may have.
The training programme is not intended to complete any part of a candidates DSC 2 portfolio but in circumstances where an instructor considers that a candidate has sufficient knowledge it might be agreed that the final outing can take the form of a witnessed stalk which will provide some portfolio evidence.
'Awareness Training' will also be of benefit to those who have achieved DSC 1 and are wishing to gain experience of actual stalking before embarking upon additional qualifications.
The cost of the training is £200 and does not include any accommodation, which might be required. BDS will endeavour to place candidates with instructors in their preferred areas but should appreciate that not all parts of the UK are available for the training scheme.
All applicants must be in possession of 3rd party liability insurance of £5 million, evidence of which, which will require to be shown. This is available at extra cost to all Members of the British Deer Society. |
