2011 DULVERTON TROPHY AWARD & BDS PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
 
Closing Date: 1st February 2012

Branches ONLY are invited to submit the results of their branch photographic competitions for the 2011 inter branch photographic competition (Dulverton Trophy) award.  

The branch entries will also be entered into the individual categories for consideration of the award of BDS Photographer of the Year.
 
Individual BDS members can also submit their own entries independently for the BDS Photographer of the Year.
 
THE COMPETITIONS RULES ARE THE SAME FOR ALL ENTRANTS
 
THEME

The secret lives of Deer
 
SUBJECT

Wild or park deer, UK native species, in any situation.
All images entered must be of LIVE DEER. Their welfare is paramount and there must be no disturbance to them during the taking of any photographs.
Pictures must be legally obtained with landowner's permission where necessary.
 
CATEGORIES

1. Images acquired using either film SLR or DSLR camera.
2.  Images acquired using compact digital camera.
3.  Youth category using either SLR/DSLR or compact digital camera.
 
RULES 

*
 Entries must be from fully paid up members of the British Deer Society. Membership number must be included with entry.

* The British Deer Society is organising the competition which is open to any member with the exception of the organizing members and any sponsors.

*
 Any branch competition held since April 2011 will be valid for entry. The competition closes on 1st February 2012.

* Entries must be photographs no smaller than 5"x7" and no larger than A4 and should be un-mounted. Photographs should be accompanied by digital copies on CD (in JPEG or TIFF format only) Names and address must also be written on all CDs and prints, together with the Category and type of camera used.

* Up to three images per member may be submitted in each category.

* Each entrant must hold the sole copyright of each picture entered and, where appropriate, may enter more than one category to a total maximum of 6 permissible images.

* Pictures that have previously won an open photographic competition (with the exception of local camera club competitions), are not eligible. Any photograph discovered to have been so entered will be disqualified.

 The judges, appointed by the organiser, will have the final decision and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges or organisers regarding either the judging or organisation of the competition.

* The winning branch will be notified and the photographs will be exhibited at the 2012 AGM of the British Deer Society, as well as being published in the DEER journal and on the BDS website.

 The BDS Photographer of the Year will be chosen from ALL entries received.

 The judges will also select a runner up and third placed photographer in individual sections.

 The organisers reserve the right to publish and or reproduce, without further permission, any image submitted to the competition for the furtherance of the aims of the British Deer Society.

 Similarly our sponsors may use prize winning images for publicity purposes, and for publication in their catalogues and websites in connection with the furtherance of their businesses. Copyright at all times remains with the photographer.

 All images are sent at the photographer's own risk and the organisers cannot accept liability for any loss or damage howsoever that may be caused.
                               
PRIZES

The Dulverton Trophy will be awarded to the winning branch selected by the judges from those entering.

1) SLR Individual Photographer of the Year
          a) 1st Prize - Certificate + £50 cash + Compact Camera (value £100)
          b) 2nd Prize - Certificate + £35 cash
          c) 3rd Prize - Certificate + £25 cash
 
2) Compact Individual Photographer of the Year
          a) 1st Prize - Certificate + £50 cash + Wildlife Watching Bag Hide (see photograph below)
          b) 2nd Prize - Certificate + £35 cash
          c) 3rd Prize - Certificate + £25 cash
 
3) Youth prize - £25 cash + certificate + Ray Mears Essential Bushcraft book

RETURN OF ENTRIES

The hard copies will be returned to the relevant branches and members.
Closing Date: 1st February 2012.
Judges will be experts in the photographic field in their own right.
